Wolfenbarger tapped to lead Materiel Command

A three-star who handles Air Force acquisition will be the next head of Air Force Materiel Command, the Defense Department announced Monday.

Lt. Gen. Janet Wolfenbarger has been nominated for the rank of general and to head AFMC at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. She would replace Gen. Donald Hoffman, who is set to retire.

Wolfenbarger is now the military deputy in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition. Her appointment to AFMC and her promotion require Senate confirmation.

In her current role, Wolfenbarger manages research and development, test, production and modernization for about $40 billion in Air Force programs. She also served as vice commander of AFMC between December 2009 and September 2011.
