BERLIN, Ga. — An A-10C Warthog crashed in south Georgia on Monday afternoon and the pilot bailed out, Air Force officials said.

The service said in a statement that the plane crashed in Cook County, in rural south Georgia.

The pilot was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital in Adel for evaluation, the Air Force said. He later was taken to the medical facility at Moody Air Force Base.

The plane crashed in a wooded area, and the Cook County sheriff’s office said there didn’t appear to be any injuries on the ground.

Moody and Cook County emergency response personnel were sent to secure the crash site.

The Air Force said the Warthog had no ordnance on board. The pilot’s name was withheld pending notification of his family.
