CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The commander of F.E. Warren Air Force Base says it contributes about $364 million a year to the local economy.

Maj. Gen. C. Donald Alston discussed the impact Friday in a talk to the Military Affairs Committee of the Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce.

The Cheyenne Tribune Eagle says the impact includes $221 million in payroll, about $81 million in construction and the rest in jobs created indirectly by the base.

Warren is one of three Air Force bases that staff and maintain intercontinental ballistic missiles. The others are Minot Air Force Base, N.D., and Malmstrom Air Force Base, Mont.

Each has 150 Minuteman III missiles carrying nuclear warheads.
