Families ID airmen killed in Germany attack

Two families have identified their sons as the U.S. airmen killed Wednesday in an attack at a German airport.

Cathy Garner told The Associated Press on Thursday that her son Nick Alden was one of the airmen killed in the shooting at the Frankfurt airport. She said Alden learned about a month ago that he would be deployed to Afghanistan. The airman previously served a six-month tour in Iraq.

Garner says Alden’s wife and their two young children have been living in England.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office released a statement Thursday from the family of Airman 1st Class Zachary Ryan Cuddeback, who was also killed in the attack. Cuddeback’s parents described him as “an Army brat” who graduated from William Monroe High School in Stanardsville and played hockey at Old Dominion University.

The Cuddebacks said their son joined the Air Force in 2009.
