A Florida man has been convicted after claiming to intercept an e-mail describing a plan to poison the water supplies at two Air Force bases.

A federal jury found Kenneth Marx, 48, guilty of two counts of relaying hoax threats on Aug. 27. He faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and will be sentenced Nov. 10.

Marx called the FBI and a Panama City, Fla., television station on June 26, 2009, and claimed he intercepted an e-mail that threatened to place E. coli bacteria in the water supplies at Eglin and Tyndall Air Force bases, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s office.

The FBI “promptly investigated the claim and found it to be baseless,” according to the release.
