AFA to recognize outstanding airmen, groups

The Air Force Association will recognize the outstanding contributions of airmen and groups at its annual convention next month in suburban Washington, D.C.

The awards to be presented at the Sept. 13-15 convention and the nominees, who are authorized to wear the Air Force Recognition Ribbon:

Theodore Von Karman Award, for the field of aerospace science and engineering

• Lt. Col. Timothy Sands, Pacific Air Forces.

• 2nd Weather Group, Air Force Weather Agency.

• Maj. Walter Sykes, Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Agency.

David C. Schilling Award, for the field of manned space flight

• 380th Air Expeditionary Wing, Air Combat Command.

• Project Liberty Team, Air Force Materiel Command.

• 8th Special Operations Squadron, Air Force Special Operations Command.

Gill Robb Wilson Award, for the field of arts and letters, including writing, speaking and painting

• Maj. Warren Neary, Air Force Global Strike Command.

• Lt. Col. Gabriel Lajeunesse, Air Force Office of Special Investigations.

• 4th Combat Camera Squadron, Air Force Reserve Command.

Citation of Honor, for significantly exceeding standard performance

• Special Operations Forces/Combat Search and Rescue Fixed Wing Aircraft Sustainment Team, AFMC.

• 6th Field Investigations Squadron, AFOSI.

• 50th Intelligence Squadron, AFRC.

• 618th Tanker Airlift Control Center, Air Mobility Command.

• 480th Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Wing, AF ISR Agency.

• Master Sgt. Shawn Chura, PACAF.

• 435th Contingency Response Group, U.S. Air Forces in Europe.

• 67th Special Operations Squadron, AFSOC.

• Air Force Tactical Exploitation of National Capabilities Division, Air Force Space Command.
