Ex-airman accused of bomb threat can go home

BANGOR, Maine — A federal judge is allowing a man accused of causing a trans-Atlantic flight to be diverted to Bangor to return to his Florida home.
Magistrate Judge Magaret Kravchuk on Wednesday modified bail conditions for Derek Stansberry, who has been living with his girlfriend’s family in Matamoras, Pa. Eventually, Stansberry will be allowed to return to Riverview, Fla.
Prosecutors say Stansberry passed a note to a flight attendant that said he had a fake passport and told federal air marshals that he had dynamite aboard an April 27 Paris-to-Atlanta flight.
Defense lawyer Walter McKee has said there was “something going on with him psychologically that day.” Stansberry held a top security clearance and received an honorable discharge from the Air Force.
