Tanker makes emergency landing at Guard base

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — A New Hampshire Air National Guard tanker and its four-member crew are safe on the ground after making an emergency landing because of a crack in the cockpit window.
Public Affairs Officer Lt. Sherri Pierce says the KC-135 aircraft made a smooth landing at about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Pease Air National Guard base in Portsmouth. It’s not known what caused the crack.
The plane took off at about 9:30 a.m. and was on its way to Langley Air Force Base in Virginia when the crew reported the crack and decided to return to Pease.
Pierce says the plane was carrying about 130,000 pounds of fuel and the crew dumped fuel over the ocean so it could land safely.
