SANTA ANA, Calif. — A Los Angeles man has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for taking $73,000 in kickbacks from contractors at the Los Angeles Air Force Base.

A judge in Santa Ana sentenced 39-year-old Alejandro Rivera on Tuesday and ordered him to pay about $38,000 in restitution.

Federal prosecutors say Rivera was a civilian employee at the El Segundo base and took money from subcontractors for awarding plumbing, construction and painting contracts for the base hospital.

One of the subcontractors was an FBI source.

Rivera pleaded guilty in December to eight counts of accepting kickbacks and three counts of mail fraud.
