ALBANY, N.Y. — Gov. David Paterson has appointed Brig. Gen. Patrick Murphy to replace retiring Maj. Gen. Joseph Taluto as commander of the New York National Guard.
Murphy, a 32-year veteran of the Army National Guard, is currently serving as the state Guard’s director of joint staff and Taluto’s assistant.
As adjutant general, Murphy will oversee 16,000 members of the New York Army and Air National Guard.
The 52-year-old Murphy enlisted in the Iowa Army National Guard in 1977. He joined the New York Army National Guard in June 2007.
He and his wife live in Clifton Park in Saratoga County.
Taluto is retiring Feb. 14. The 44-year veteran withdrew last month as President Obama’s nominee to lead the Army National Guard.
