Dobbins to take flights with Haiti victims
Posted : Tuesday Feb 2, 2010 18:20:38 EST
ATLANTA — Military officials say a group of injured patients from earthquake-ravaged Haiti will be flown into Dobbins Air Force Base on the way to Atlanta-area hospitals Tuesday night.
Dobbins spokesman Jim Weslowski says details are still sketchy on the last-minute fly in, which he says is being coordinated by the Atlanta VA Medical Center.
Medical Center public affairs officer Greg Kendall says officials are expecting five patients and one soldier. Officials aren’t sure what type of injuries they may have, but Weslowski says six are believed to need immediate transport by ambulance.
Weslowski says other Haitians have arrived at bases in Florida in recent weeks but this is the first group coming into Georgia. He says the base received thousands of patients displaced from Hurricane Katrina.
