SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. — The commander of Arnold Air Force Base and Arnold Engineering Development Center says students need to be inspired to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math.
Col. Michael Panarisi said statistics showing U.S. students lagging far behind other countries in science and technology skills are “alarming.”
He told the Shelbyville Times-Gazette that he wants the base and center to increase involvement with area schools.
AEDC, located in Coffee and Franklin counties, is a massive complex of ground test facilities that serve both military and commercial aerospace customers. It is part of the Air Force Materiel Command and overseen by Air Force and Navy personnel.
Panarisi became AEDC commander in July.
