ALAMOGORDO, N.M. — A man who once served as an Air Force technical sergeant has been convicted of second-degree murder and other charges stemming from the stabbing death of an airman who allegedly had an affair with his wife.
Prosecutors say 35-year-old Gerard Parvilus was found guilty Monday. He could face more than 63 years in prison.
Parvilus was accused of killing Pierre Smith, a native of Salisbury, Md., on Feb. 22, 2008, at an Alamogordo hotel.
Parvilus, his wife Jahaira Parvilus and Smith were all enlisted in the Air Force at the time of the incident.
Testimony indicated Parvilus’ wife and Smith started an extramarital affair during their deployment in Kuwait, while Parvilus was stationed in South Korea.
Defense attorneys maintained that Parvilus killed Smith in self-defense.
