General officer assignments released

The Air Force Chief of Staff on Oct. 16 announced the following general officer assignments:

* Maj. Gen. Hank C. Morrow, commander of 1st Air Force, Air Combat Command, and commander of Continental U.S. North American Aerospace Defense Command Region, at Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla., will be assigned as the U.S. defense representative in the U.S. Liaison Office for U.S. Central Command in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

* Maj. Gen. Garry C. Dean, deputy inspector general of the Air Force at the Pentagon, will be assigned as commander of 1st Air Force, Air Combat Command, and commander of Continental U.S. North American Aerospace Defense Command Region, at Tyndall Air Force Base.

* Maj. Gen. Harold L. Mitchell, mobilization assistant to the commander of U.S. Transportation Command at Scott Air Force Base, Ill., will become deputy inspector general of the Air Force.

* Brig Gen. Marvin T. Smoot, director of manpower, personnel and services at Air Force Materiel Command, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, will be assigned as commandant of the Joint Forces Staff College at National Defense University, Norfolk, Va.

* Brig. Gen. Mark W. Graper, commander of the 354th Fighter Wing, Pacific Air Forces, at Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska, will become vice commander of the 9th Air Expeditionary Task Force, Air Combat Command, at Shaw Air Force Base, S.C.

* Col. Jerry P. Martinez, who has been selected for the rank of brigadier general, will move from being inspector general for Air Mobility Command at Scott Air Force Base, to deputy commander of political-military affairs for Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan in Kabul, Afghanistan.
