First Reaper repair school opens
Posted : Friday Oct 2, 2009 16:31:14 EDT
SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Air Force has opened the first maintenance training center for its new fleet of remotely piloted aircraft at Syracuse's Hancock Field Air National Guard base.
The new Reaper Field Training Detachment in Syracuse is the only Air Force or Air National Guard facility dedicated to training personnel to work on the unmanned MQ-9 Reapers. Military officials held a ceremony Friday to mark the opening.
The New York Air National Guard 174th Fighter Wing is currently shifting from F-16 fighters to the unmanned drones and expects to finish the conversion by next summer. Besides being the Air Force's primary maintenance training center, the 174th will have its own fleet of Reapers.
