114 selected for officer’s commissions

A total of 114 men and women — enlisted airmen and civilians — have been selected for an officer’s commission, officials from Air Force Recruiting Service announced Thursday.

Recruiting Service officials selected 10 percent of the 1,139 applications as part of the Officer Training School Selection Board 090T04.

Of the 114 candidates selected, 42, or 37 percent, are enlisted airmen who earned the chance to attend OTS and trade their stripes for a second lieutenant’s gold bars.

During the selection process, board members consider each applicant’s academic discipline, grade point average and Air Force Officer Qualifying Test scores. They also evaluate applicants’ work experience, accomplishments, character, leadership ability, potential for future growth and other recommendations. The board also reviews performance reports and commanders’ recommendations for applicants who are active-duty enlisted airmen.

Each application is reviewed by three colonels. The process is similar to an Air Force officer promotion board.

Selected candidates should expect to attend Basic Officer Training at Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala., in the latter part of 2010.
