Enlisted airmen can apply for new nurse program
Posted : Sunday Nov 1, 2009 8:29:51 EST
Active-duty enlisted airmen can now apply for the opportunity to earn a bachelor’s degree and a commission and become nurses, officials from the Air Force Personnel Center announced Friday.
The annual Nurse Enlisted Commissioning Program board will meet May 11-13 to select candidates who will start school in fall 2010.
Candidates selected for the program will pursue a bachelor’s degree in a high-need academic major at a college or university with an Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps detachment or a college or university with a “cross-town agreement.”
Students will receive their commission after passing the National Council Licensure Examination and then attend commissioned officer training and the Nurse Transition Program. They also will be required to attend school year-round for up to 24 consecutive calendar months, to include summer sessions.
At this time, Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard personnel are not eligible to apply.
Guidelines, eligibility requirements and application deadlines are available at local base education offices.
