2 maintenance squadrons recognized by DoD

Two Air Force maintenance squadrons are among the winners of the Secretary of Defense Maintenance Awards announced Monday.
The 31st Munitions Squadron at Camp Darby, Italy, and the 6th/927th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla., took the honors for small maintenance units.
The 31st is a geographically separated unit assigned to the 31st Fighter Wing, Aviano Air Base, Italy, and has more than 128 active-duty personnel, according to a unit release. The squadron maintains a stockpile of conventional munitions worth $423 million.
The 6th/927th cares for 16 KC-135 tankers flown by the 6th Air Mobility Wing and the Air Force Reserve’s 927th Air Refueling Wing. Their works allows the tankers to fly an annual schedule of more than 2,800 sorties and 11,000 flight hours.
The awards will be presented Oct. 28 at the 2009 Department of Defense’s Maintenance Symposium and Exhibition in Phoenix.
