HELENA, Mont. — The commander of the Montana Air National Guard's 120th Fighter Wing has accepted a job in Washington, D.C.

Col. Mike McDonald will become the commander of the Air National Guard Readiness Center in August, said Maj. Rick Anderson, a spokesman for Montana's Air Guard.

McDonald has been the 120th's wing commander since June 2007. He oversaw 900 personnel while ensuring the unit met its flying and training missions. He also was responsible for aircraft and assets worth more than $750 million, much of it based in Great Falls.

McDonald received his bachelor of science degree from the Air Force Academy in 1978. He attended F-16 basic training in 1980 and has since logged more than 4,400 hours in the aircraft.

Anderson said McDonald's replacement has not been selected.
