The Obama administration has tapped a former longtime Air Force employee to be assistant secretary of the Air Force for installations and environment, according to a news release from the White House on Monday.
If confirmed by the Senate, Terry A. Yonkers will help oversee $1.4 billion for Air Force base improvement and construction as part of the domestic stimulus package signed by President Barack Obama in February.
Yonkers, who worked as a civilian Air Force employee for 22 years before entering the private sector, was acting deputy assistant secretary of the Air Force for Environment, Safety and Occupational Health from 2000 to 2001, according to the White House.
During the same period, Yonkers served as director of environmental programs for the Air Force Base Conversion Agency.
In his new role, Yonkers would oversee Air Force environmental cleanup efforts for bases set to convert to civilian use, according to data from the Air Force Real Property Agency.
Yonkers is vice president of business development for ARCADIS US, a company that specializes in military base cleanup, according to a news release from the company and the White House.
