New CO takes command at Ellsworth AFB

RAPID CITY, S.D. — A new commander comes on board Thursday at Ellsworth Air Force Base near Rapid City.
Col. Jeffrey Taliaferro takes over command of the 28th Bomb Wing from Col. Scott Vander Hamm, who is leaving for a job at the Pentagon. Vander Hamm, who has been commander for two years, will be the assistant deputy director for global operations of the joint staff.
Taliaferro has been stationed at the Pentagon. He has more than 2,000 flight hours in the B1 bomber. Ellsworth is home to many of the Air Force's B1s.
