RI Air Guard resumes recruiting
Posted : Tuesday Jun 9, 2009 16:19:40 EDT
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Rhode Island Air National Guard has resumed recruiting after temporarily suspending those operations when a recruiter was charged with drug dealing.
Maj. Gen. Robert Bray declared a temporary halt to recruiting last week after Tech. Sgt. Richard Flamand was arrested for dealing cocaine and prescription pills. Investigators said they found drugs inside Flamand’s Cranston recruiting office. His attorney has said he is innocent until proven guilty.
National Guard spokesman Lt. Col. Denis Riel said recruiting resumed Tuesday following an initial review that determined that Flamand acted alone. His co-workers said they were unaware of Flamand’s alleged actions.
Riel said the military reviewed the recruits that Flamand signed but found no irregularities.
The Guard will now require that people entering recruiting offices sign in.
