Singapore squadron to train at Mountain Home

MOUNTAIN HOME, Idaho — Mountain Home Air Force Base is preparing to host and train a squadron of pilots from Singapore.

Officials say four fighter jets from the Republic of Singapore Air Force arrived at the base Wednesday.

The delivery is the first for a new training squadron from Singapore that will be dispatched to southwestern Idaho later this month. Officials say the squadron will include about 180 active and 130 support personnel from Singapore.

Col. John Bird, Wing Commander of the 366th Fighter Wing based in Mountain Home, says the Singapore pilots and other personnel will live with their American counterparts during the exercise.

The exercise is part of an agreement that will allow Singaporean pilots to fly in and out of Mountain Home for the next 25 years.
