Bomb drops on the rise again in Middle East

For the third consecutive month the number of bombs dropped by Air Force, Navy and other coalition warplanes increased in Afghanistan and Iraq, according to Air Forces Central.

During March, fighters and bombers on 2,236 sorties released 335 bombs over Afghanistan, more munitions than the combined total for January and February, and the largest single monthly count since August 2008.

Over Iraq, fighters on 782 sorties dropped 41 bombs, compared to 34 in February. It was the highest monthly total since August 2008, when 52 munitions were dropped.

Mobility pilots continue to be busy airdropping supplies, primarily into Afghanistan. During the first three months of the year, 3.5 million pounds of supplies were parachuted, the same amount as was airdropped for all of 2006.

Reconnaissance aircraft flew 1,387 flights over both nations.
