Former chief of staff to speak on strategy

Former Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. T. Michael Moseley will speak Jan. 14 at the College of Charleston in Charleston, S.C., about the global strategic landscape and the challenges facing the world community, according to a college news release.

Moseley has kept a low profile since being ousted in June by Defense Secretary Robert Gates after an inquiry revealed systemic problems with the Air Force’s nuclear stewardship. Then-Air Force Secretary Michael W. Wynne was also fired, the first time in history a military service’s top two leaders have been fired at the same time.

“General Moseley will also discuss the impacts of unprecedented change in technology and the exponential growth in access to information across a wide range of economic, cultural and military activities,” according to the news release. “While focusing on the security requirements attendant with these uncertainties, these challenges also offer a wide range of emerging opportunities for the US to engage and partner with the key actors across the world stage.”

During his tenure as chief, Moseley was well regarded by many as a strategic thinker, but he did not see eye-to-eye with Gates on future national security threats to the U.S.
