E-8 in child porn case fights for benefits
Posted : Thursday Nov 13, 2008 20:36:01 EST
An Air Force senior master sergeant who pleaded guilty to felony possession of child pornography and was sentenced to four years in prison is trying to keep his Air Force retirement benefits.
Bruce E. Walker, who was stationed at Scott Air Force Base, Ill., was recommended for an honorable discharge by an administrative hearing panel who knew of his conviction, according to court records used in the sentencing procedure.
But the Air Force denied the recommendation, and now Walker is appealing that decision, according to a report in the Belleview News-Democrat. If Walker is granted an honorable discharge, he would retain the retirement benefits he earned over a 26-year career.
Walker was found last year to have child pornography on his home computer after he was caught downloading the files from a server monitored by Illinois authorities.
Walker has been in custody since his arrest in 2007.
