Commissaries pull ketchup from store shelves
Posted : Wednesday Aug 20, 2008 12:18:52 EDT
After complaints from some commissary customers about swollen ketchup bottles, and white and yellow particles found inside some ketchup bottles, Defense Commissary Agency officials have ordered that all sizes of Del Monte ketchup be removed from commissary shelves.
No illnesses have been reported. Food safety specialists are conducting tests on the products to determine their safety.
The following products have been removed:
* Del Monte ketchup, 64 ounce, UPC 002400000898
* Del Monte ketchup, 36 ounce, UPC 002400000643
* Del Monte ketchup, 24 ounce, UPC 002400000641
Customers who have bought Del Monte ketchup should not consume it, pending testing of the product, commissary officials advise. If customers would prefer not to keep the product until a medical determination has been made, they can return it to the commissary where they bought it for a full refund.
“This is procedural. We’re erring on the side of caution,” said DeCA spokesman Kevin Robinson.
