Brass at Hill: Your Air Force is coming back
Posted : Monday Aug 25, 2008 17:39:50 EDT
The Air Force’s top two leaders stressed attention to detail in the nuclear enterprise during a visit Friday to Hill Air Force Base, Utah, one of the bases involved in the accidental shipment of nuclear weapons fuses to Taiwan discovered in March.
Acting Secretary Michael Donley and Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz heard briefings about the nuclear enterprise, and spoke to and fielded questions from a large group of airmen at the base.
“We have some things we need to work on, and we will,” Schwartz said, according to an Air Force press release. “But a key point, in my view, is that your Air Force, in those areas where we’ve had some difficulties, is coming back. The way we do that is through precision and reliability, in everything we do.”
Donley told airmen that one of his priorities is to bring a sense of stability to the Air Force after a tumultuous few months.
“I’ve found the Air Force a little rocked by some of the decisions that have been made in Washington, and the leadership change standing in front of you today is unprecedented,” Donley said, according to the press release. “Our immediate goal is to settle things down in the Air Force.”
He also told airmen that fixing the nuclear enterprise and securing a deal for a new tanker are his top priorities right now.
Schwartz and Donley visited Malmstrom Air Force Base, Mont., after their stop at Hill.
