Medal mix-up appeared on candidate Web site

OKLAHOMA CITY — A Norman man running for a state House seat said he listed the wrong name for a medal he received during his time in the Oklahoma Air National Guard.
Republican candidate Aaron Stiles said he has corrected the mistake on his campaign’s Web site.
Stiles had said that he had earned a Meritorious Service Medal while serving in the Guard from 1997 to 2005. He actually received the Air Force Achievement Medal for meritorious service. Both medals are awarded for non-combat service.
Stiles said he received the award for work during the aftermath of tornadoes that hit Oklahoma on May 3, 1999.
Matthew Dukes, who was the top enlisted person in Stiles’ Guard squadron, noticed the error and told The Oklahoman. Stiles then checked his military records and also spotted the mistake.
