Top Air Force aide to resign

Kenneth Miller, special assistant to the secretary of the Air Force, is expected to resign before the week is out.

An Air Force official said Miller has not been forced to resign and was in fact asked to stay on an additional 30 days by Acting Air Force Secretary Michael Donley.

“It’s always been in his plan to leave when Secretary Wynne left,” a service spokesman said.

Air Force Secretary Michael Wynne, along with Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. T. Michael “Buzz” Moseley, were both asked to resign June 5, following a series of nuclear gaffes and a long history of butting heads with the Office of the Secretary of Defense, including Defense Secretary Robert Gates himself.

Miller is on leave for most of the week and could not be reached for comment. He is expected to return and tender his resignation by July 31.

As special assistant for acquisition governance and transparency, Miller is responsible for acquisition integrity and “formulation of acquisition and contracting policies and the management oversight of specific acquisition programs,” according to his official Air Force biography.
