Red Horse spots opening for reservists
Posted : Tuesday Jun 10, 2008 7:25:01 EDT
If you’re a reservist and have thought about working with a Red Horse unit, now’s your chance.
Air Force Reserve Command will create 446 new Red Horse authorizations, according to a command press release. Airmen displaced by base closure and realignment decisions can join the new units, while other spots will be filled by converting reserve Prime Base Engineer Emergency Force squadrons at Charleston Air Force Base, S.C., and Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, N.C. Those units will then form associate units with the active-duty Prime BEEF units at their respective bases.
Also, the 556th Red Horse Squadron at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, is being moved to Hurlburt Field, Fla., where it will form an associate unit with the active-duty 823rd Red Horse Squadron. The reserve 555th Red Horse Squadron at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., will associate with the active-duty 820th Red Horse Squadron there.
The associations will allow the units to share equipment, facilities and expertise, according to Staff Sgt. Andrew Nystrom, an AFRC spokesman.
