An MQ-1 Predator crashed shortly after takeoff Thursday, making it the second Predator to crash after lifting off in the past two weeks.
The unmanned drone crashed about six miles south of Kandahar Airfield in Afghanistan. Another Predator crashed about a mile from Balad Air Base, Iraq, on June 2 after taking off.
A board will investigate Thursday’s accident. Results from the June 2 accident are still pending, but it appears to be caused by “mechanical failures,” Air Force spokeswoman Capt. Paula Kurtz said.
