Shaw pilot jailed on assault charges
Posted : Sunday Jun 1, 2008 12:22:16 EDT
A pilot from Shaw Air Force Base, S.C., turned himself in to police May 21 after a dispute in a Columbia bar that left another man in critical condition.
Capt. Christopher J. Todaro of the 20th Fighter Wing was at a bar in the early morning hours of May 17 when, according to a police report, he shoved a man in the chest. The man, identified in local media reports as William Wrenn, then fell backward into a parked car and suffered a serious head injury. Wrenn was taken to a local hospital and is in critical but stable condition, according to the police report.
Todaro turned himself in to Columbia police on May 21 and has been charged with assault and battery with intent to kill. Todaro’s bond was set at $150,000.
According to the police report, Todaro pushed Wrenn “with open hands” after Wrenn had been “touching females all night.”
Officials at Shaw declined to comment on the matter, citing longstanding policy of not commenting on ongoing civilian legal cases. No military legal action against Todaro was being pursued as of Thursday, according to base spokeswoman Judy Lewis.
