Airmen from the 23rd Special Tactics Squadron at Hurlburt Field, Fla., are searching for an RQ-11 Raven unmanned aerial vehicle that disappeared Tuesday during a training sortie near Ocala, Fla.

The aircraft apparently malfunctioned and then disappeared at around 4 p.m. May 6, said 1st Lt. Amy Cooper, a spokeswoman for Air Force Special Operations Command.

Airmen were flying the UAV during an exercise with the Navy when it went missing, Cooper said.

The Raven has a wingspan of about 4 1/2 feet and weighs around four pounds, according to an Air Force fact sheet, and each aircraft costs about $173,000.

Anyone who finds the UAV is asked to call the Ocala Police Department at 352-369-7000.
