Tech. sgt. rescues carjacked toddler in D.C.

An Air National Guardsman helped save a 2-year-old boy Thursday after carjackers drove off with the child in the back seat.
Tech. Sgt. Lamar Elliot, who’s with the Washington, D.C., Guard, was driving home and pulled over to let a car speed past him, according to local media reports, when he noticed the car had a gas pump handle sticking out.
The carjackers had driven off with the car while its owner was gassing up, reports said.
“I pulled over to let this speeding car pass me, saw the handle of the gas cap sticking out and saw a Marine Corps sticker,” Elliot was quoted as saying in an MSNBC report. “A Marine would never do that.”
Elliot followed the car, suspecting it was stolen. The carjackers eventually parked the car in a Maryland suburban neighborhood and jumped out, speeding off in a blue Dodge Charger, reports said.
That’s when Elliot went to get the keys from the still-running car and noticed a frightened toddler in back.
Elliot, the father of a young child himself, took the 2-year-old to a neighbor’s house, where the child and his mother were soon reunited.
