Two named to top Air Force spots in AfriCom

The Air Force leadership in U.S. Africa Command is taking shape.

Maj. Gen. Ronald R. Ladnier will serve as commander for 17th Air Force, the AfriCom air arm. Brig. Gen. Michael W. Callan will serve as vice commander.

Ladnier’s previous post was commander of Air Mobility Command’s Tanker Airlift Control Center at Scott Air Force Base, Ill. Callan is transitioning from command of the 23rd Air Force and direction of air, space and cyberspace for Air Force Special Operations Command at Hurlburt Field, Fla.

Three other Air Force generals are also on the move:

* Brig. Gen. Mark S. Solo, who has been selected for major general, will move from his position as deputy director, air, space and information operations, Headquarters Air Mobility Command, Scott Air Force Base, Ill., to commander, Tanker Airlift Control Center, Air Mobility Command, Scott Air Force Base.

* Brig. Gen. Richard T. Devereaux will move from being commander, 82nd Training Wing, Air Education and Training Command, Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, to deputy director, air, space and information operations, Headquarters Air Mobility Command, Scott Air Force Base.

* Brig. Gen. Otis G. Mannon will move from being deputy director, special operations, J-37, Joint Staff, Pentagon, Washington, D.C., to commander, 82nd Training Wing, Air Education and Training Command, Sheppard Air Force Base.
