N.Y. Air Guardsmen deploy to Iraq
Posted : Tuesday Feb 26, 2008 6:04:42 EST
NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — Members of the Niagara Falls-based 107th Air Refueling Wing are on their way to Iraq.
Military officials declined to say how many men and women deployed Monday afternoon from the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station, but say the wing has sent about 100 Air Guardsmen to Iraq since the beginning of the year.
Most of the members who flew out Monday have been deployed before. Their mission over the next several months will be to secure Air Force personnel and assets in Iraq.
The 107th is in the process of changing from an air refueling wing to a transport unit as part of the most recent round of base realignments and closings.
