SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The commander of the Air National Guard’s 174th Fighter Wing says about half of his unit will spend this summer in Iraq.
Col. Anthony Basile says 350 of the wing’s 1,000 members will deploy to Iraq early this summer and will return at the end of the summer. Another 150 members will rotate in and out of the combat zone during the deployment.
It will be the Syracuse-based unit’s eighth trip to the region since it participated in Operation Desert Storm in Iraq in 1991 and its first since returning in January 2007.
