An airman deployed to Afghanistan died Monday in a “non-combat-related incident” at Bagram Air Base, the Air Force announced Wednesday.
Senior Airman Nicholas D. Eischen, 24, of Sanger, Calif., was deployed to Bagram with the 455th Expeditionary Medical Group.
He was permanently assigned to the 60th Medical Operations Squadron at Travis Air Force Base, Calif., according to an Air Force press release.
Capt. Michael Meridith, a spokesman for the 455th at Bagram, said in an e-mail that “the cause of death is still undetermined and is currently under investigation.”
Eischen arrived at Bagram on Sept. 5, and he worked as an emergency department technician in the emergency room of the Craig Joint Theater Hospital on base, Meridith said. His duties included making arrangements and preparations for incoming trauma patients and assisting in initial treatment.
