Airmen cast in latest ‘Bourne’ film
Posted : Tuesday May 15, 2007 14:09:18 EDT
The Air Force invasion of Hollywood continues.
Airmen at Edwards Air Force Base, Calif., have already grabbed screen time in the upcoming “Transformers” and “Iron Man” movies. Now their fellow airmen across the pond are getting into the act.
Master Sgt. Brian Bailey, Tech. Sgt. Darrin Gabriel and Staff Sgt. Amber Godfrey, all stationed at RAF Feltwell, England, recently finished 10 days of filming in London for “The Bourne Ultimatum,” the third “Bourne” film, set to come out this summer.
All three belong to the 18th Intelligence Squadron, Detachment 4. They responded to a casting call looking for Americans for specific parts. Bailey was cast as Bill Myer, a small parts worker. Gabriel and Godfrey play government agents chasing after Matt Damon’s character, Jason Bourne, through the London Underground.
Director Paul Greengrass filmed the chase scene in the Waterloo station while it was full of daily commuters to add realism to the action. Still, fighting through crowds wasn’t the most challenging aspect of the role, said Godfrey.
“It was the standing around for hours waiting for the directors to reset the scene and call action for how ever many takes it took to get one scene perfect,” he said.
The airmen will have to wait until the movie premiers to find out if their scenes make the final cut, and to learn the movie’s plot. The total storyline was kept confidential from even the film’s main actors. The experience, though, has already paid off.
“It was something that you can say you have experienced once in your lifetime,” said Bailey. “Also, hanging out with David Strathairn, Paul Greengrass, Corey Johnson and Joan Allen was very exciting. It also was nice to just see these actors and actresses as everyday people, just like myself.”
