Online claim created for items lost in moves
Posted : Tuesday Feb 27, 2007 20:58:11 EST
The Air Force is easing the hassle of airmen whose property is lost or damaged during moves.
The Air Force Judge Advocate General's Corps has created an online claim filing system for personnel claims, available at https://claims.jag.af.mil.
Airmen can use the form to report any loss or damage to property during transit or storage at government expense. Members can complete the process from home after a one-time login on any government computer.
The change is expected to bring faster processing of claims and quicker payouts. Members will also be able to reach customer service online, in addition to over the phone.
Department of Defense form 1840/1840R, entitled Joint Statement of Loss or Damage at Delivery/Notice of Loss and/or Damage, should still be submitted within 70 days from the date of delivery to the local base legal office. After that, the claim itself will be submitted directly to the AFCSC within 2 years from the date of the incident.
