Basic Allowance for Subsistence
The Basic Allowance for Subsistence is linked to, and changes with, the Agriculture Department’s food-cost index. The 2008 BAS rates represent an increase of about 5.2 percent over 2007. The new rates as of Jan. 1:
Officers
(including commissioned officers, warrant officers and aviation cadets)
$202.76 per month
Enlisted
(almost everyone who has completed basic training)
$294.43 per month
