Aircraft repair ‘a team effort’
The Air Force stopped treating guys as mechanics and instituted a policy of 100 percent tech order compliance. Being a 7-level used to mean that you had enough technical ability and systems knowledge to perform small modifications on your own. Let us be mechanics again and not just trained monkeys reading books.

The next president and commander in chief
I really think our senior officers need to read the riot act to him and tell what will and will not be tolerated. No calling military members murderers, no treasonous crap about our fine flag, no apologizing to terrorists, no America bashing.
— kojack
The only difference between him and others is time. In time, he will earn the respect of those who doubt him, and leave a legacy that shows that he was one of history’s most intellectual thinkers.

Obama and the military
We can expect significant cutbacks in our budget. Some individuals will immediately jump on this to say “see, Obama hates the military.” Those individuals should realize that it’s the president’s job to prioritize competing claims, and the military isn’t the only institution that is in dire need of funding.

VA wary of ideas to quickly deal with claims backlog
What is needed is a complete review of claims form VA 21-526, which is confusing and asks for duplicating information. Reserve and National Guard entries should be on a separate enclosure. This would shorten the form and make it easier for first-time filers to complete.

What if?
We know there are a lot of people who are in the military who don’t want to be in anymore. What if, given at least six months’ notice, we allowed anyone to get out of the service just because they want out?
— AF Chief
If you make it too easy to get out, those who are experiencing a temporary issue [will] punch before it is worked out. If they ride it out, it is likely to work out for the best. The bases no one wants to go to would not be able to sustain manning. Get orders to (insert your least favorite base) and say, “I quit” — and so does the next guy, and the next. We need to man those bases, and things like nearing retirement, active-duty service commitment for promotion, and enlistment contracts are the tools to leverage those assignments being filled.
— CrustySMSgt
There needs to be a minimum commitment for the amount of investment we place in people. ... It would make sense to maybe make enlistments “indefinite” once you go over 10 or 14 years. I don’t see any reason to keep having to re-enlist at that point.
