JSF flight suit
I find it aggravating that helos have been around in the USAF as long as they have but we can’t get a 2-piece flight suit approved, yet the JSF isn’t even fielded yet and we already have a new snazzy FSU for it? My conspiracy theorist self thinks maybe there is something to that whole fighter mafia thing after all!

‘Breadth of experience’
I was speaking with some old friends of mine the other day about promotion boards, and the subject of having moved around a lot came up. We get told that boards like to see a breadth of experience — staying at one base too long will hurt you, as it shows you don’t have as much experience as others. Both of my friends were comm (different areas, however); both had the same thoughts — until they made E-8, it didn’t really mean squat if they PCS’d or not. No matter where they went, the equipment and number of people under them remained basically the same. So they couldn’t see what the big deal was — for their career fields, at least — about PCS’ing a lot as an indicator of promotion potential.

The only problem I see with no PCS is not breadth of experience but the little fiefdoms that get built as a result, particularly by the officers/senior enlisted should they be in one place too long. However, I see no problem with those between AB-TSgt staying in one place for 8-10 years. Hell, in some cases I think it’s better they do.

I’ve seen these AMC airmen who only know AMC and think the world revolves around Mobility. I know that PACAF people stay PACAF, marry local women and stay in that system too. Same for USAFE. Etc., etc., etc. This crap does hinder breadth of experience.
