ABU problems

My [Air National Guard] base is trying to figure out the funding right now for clothing supply. We currently can’t turn in BDUs or black boots for new ones because they’re out of stock, but we also can’t get ABUs or sage boots because they’re not authorized to distribute them yet because of the funding problems. I’m finding this situation more and more comedic as it progresses!

I am deploying in about a month on a 365-day TDY and have such a mix and match of uniform items, it truly is pathetic. ... Listen up, before you rush a new uniform item into production just to keep up with the Army and Marines, have your act together and make sure every uniform item is covered.

Bill would boot Penthouse, Playboy out of exchanges

I find myself somewhat torn on this issue. I don’t want those who like to look at such material to be punished because I believe differently than they do, yet at the same time I don’t like having to see these magazines in the store. I know they have a thin black piece of plastic covering most of the magazine, but they are still in view of children who wander by.

I totally agree with this bill. There is a moral decay that exists in the military. ... I don’t feel that pornography has a place in a base store.

PT/Fitness

If you’re not PTing in the military and you need time during work, talk to your supervisor and draw up a plan to make it happen. ... It’s not only your commander’s or supervisor’s responsibility, it’s yours!

I really don’t understand what your waist size has to do with fitness. I have seen many individuals with 30” waists that couldn’t fight their way out of a wet paper bag. ... I can do the run, the sit-ups and the push-ups, but have to worry about who is doing the waist measurement because they can either make or break the PT test with their measurements.

It is almost easier to eat healthy at Popeye’s than it is at a chow hall. ... Until the Air Force cleans things up and mandates healthier food in the chow hall, they are not serious about fitness.

Staff sergeant — How early is TOO early?

Bring back the rank of sergeant (E-4). They need to gain more NCO experience before putting on staff sergeant so early in a career.

The worst effect that the large promotion rates have had is the weakening of staff sergeant rank. I don’t entirely blame the promotees for this, either. ... Is it any wonder we have weak staff sergeants when we treat them like glorified airmen instead of NCOs?
