Air Force One scare
Seems like an awful waste of money just for a photo; then again this administration has spent more in less than 100 days in office than Bush did on Iraq and Afghanistan combined over the seven to eight years.

Recruiters in schools
I’m fine with the recruiters receiving students’ names and addresses, but my support stops at providing phone numbers. I support Rep. [Mike] Honda’s opt-in provision in his bill. That I am aware of, universities and colleges are not receiving the same information. The path a high school graduate decides to take is best worked out with his or her parents and not with a military recruiter.

CSAR suggestion
I don’t know if I am alone in this thought process, but I have said for some time that what rescue needs is to be in some way its own command or subcommand within Special Operations Command. I say SOCom because I realize all the services have some type of search and rescue/personnel recovery assets which the USAF could complement its own CSAR/PR assets with. As a community, we realize we are low-density, high-demand but the Navy for instance has SAR-capable helos also. The Army has medevac assets and then Army and USMC special teams that do SAR/PR on the ground. SOC trains its covert operation personnel in PR already, so why not conglomerate all this into one command under SOCom? Let the USAF CSAR be the training/standards experts in the flying portion of CSAR/PR and have all the helos trained to one standard so they can all assist and accentuate each other’s platform?

Service for citizenship
This has happened for many years now: foreign nationals who serve in the U.S. military becoming U.S. citizens at some point in their service. In the spirit of Robert A. Heinlein, I’m wondering if we ought to formalize this and offer all of the illegals in this country (who we catch) the chance to serve in the military in return for citizenship.

An American Foreign Legion idea has been brought up many times and seems rather logical. Count me as a [yes] vote.
