Heritage coat

I don’ have ’nuff ol’-timer’s disease (yet) to forget that the “heritage uniform coat without the belt” is a whole lot like the former USAF Class A uniform jacket (before the former CSAF Gen. Merrill McPeak started screwing with it [and the rest of the Air Force]). Um, isn’t there some ol’ sayin’ that goes like: “What goes around, comes around”?

It is quite amazing, isn’t it? Do these people understand that heritage comes from not changing stuff? Do they understand that heritage is not like Kool-Aid — you can’t just add water and, presto, instant heritage?

The current uniform looks godawful. Attached as I’ve become, because of my wife, to men’s tailoring, I’ve seen just how badly built the current blues are. They’re terrible to tailor, ill-fitting most of the time, and they look unprofessional. Yeah, they’re a suit. So? They’re a sports jacket, the lowest possible tier of suits. I could wear open collar under it and the average businessman would say it looks normal. The pictures posted are not the answer, of course. Going back, however, seems to be. I own a Korean War-era AF uniform. Four-button coat, amazing fit, as professional looking as the Marine or Army mess dress. Stop focusing on the belt.

POTUS and retirements

I have been to five recent retirements at three different bases and three presented certificates from [President] G.W. Bush, one declined prior and one was from [President Barack Obama]. I understand that we may not yet have the new certificates, but this was political. What is the right thing to do, decline it prior and omit that portion of the ceremony?
