Servicemembers’ Opportunity Colleges
Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges is a consortium of more than 1,800 public and private colleges and universities, as well as higher-education associations. SOC degree programs are primarily for Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard members.
Service members choose an SOC college, which becomes their “home” college. This college evaluates military experience and schooling, and awards credits toward a degree. The college also works out a degree plan. As service members move, they can take classes offered by other SOC schools and have those credits transferred to their home schools.
Following the student agreement (degree plan), a degree is awarded when all SOC requirements are met. At least one quarter of the degree requirements must be completed through the home college before a degree can be awarded.
Also available are SOCGuard, which provides education opportunities to help recruit and retain National Guard personnel, and the Concurrent Admissions Program for Army Enlistees, which offers college admission for recruits at the time of their enlistment.
