FORT BRAGG, N.C. — The U.S. Army Parachute Team is getting a new leader in a change of command ceremony.

The Fayetteville Observer reports Lt. Col. Matthew Weinrich will be taking over command for outgoing Lt. Col. Jose Enrique Melendez during a ceremony scheduled for Wednesday at the Golden Knights Hangar at Pope Field.

Melendez is a graduate of the University of Florida who spent two years as commander of the Golden Knights. He previously served in the 75th Ranger Regiment at Fort Benning, Georgia.

During his time at Fort Bragg, Melendez twice deployed in combat in Afghanistan and in Iraq.
