Here is how 28-year-olds, for example, gain points under Staff Sgt. Darius Boscarino’s proposed revisions to the PT test:

28-year-old male: Minimum passing score is 100

Test component Minimum Points earned
1.5-mile run 13:20 40
Pushups 30 15
Situps 50 25
Points subtotal 80

Examples of ways to earn additional 20 points to get minimum passing score:

Cut run time by 2 minutes 12
Add 4 pushups 2
Add 12 situps 6
Points total 100

28-year-old female: Minimum passing score is 65

Test component Minimum Points earned
1.5-mile run 15:40 26
Pushups 20 10
Situps 33 16.5
Points subtotal 52.5

Examples of ways to earn additional 12.5 points to get minimum passing score:

Cut run time by 1:30 minutes 9
Add 2 pushups 1
Add 5 situps 2.5
Points total 65
